What Is Rhinoplasty?

How Is Rhinoplasty Surgery Performed?
Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Dr Nouri uses the following incision techniques:
Open Rhinoplasty
An open rhinoplasty allows your surgeon a better view of the nasal anatomy and the most maneuverability to reposition and reshape cartilage, bone, and nostrils. Incisions are placed outside the nose (across the columella), but scarring is minimal.
Septoplasty
This procedure can be combined with open rhinoplasty or performed alone. A septoplasty is designed to correct a deviated septum: the cartilage dividing the nostrils is straightened, providing aesthetic and functional improvements.
What Can I Expect During My Rhinoplasty Recovery?
Following surgery, you will be monitored for an hour or so in a recovery area of the surgical facility. You will likely have a splint or nasal packing placed to support the new shape of your nose.
Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal parts of the recovery process. Most post-operative swelling after rhinoplasty resolves after several months, but residual swelling can take up to 1-2 years to completely settle. This is expected and normal.
Most patients can return to work, school, and normal activities after two weeks. You are advised to avoid strenuous activities until cleared by your surgeon.
